PLACES TO STAY
The capital has several hotel resorts, which provide accommodation for
tourists. There are a number of government guest houses, two tourist homes,
and a circuit house. Besides, there are a number of resorts, cottages, and
hotels run by private sector- and, the expenditure will definitely not burn
a hole in any pocket. Metered taxis are available and regular ferry services
connect Port Blair to other inhabited islands. Port Blair offers a variety
of delicious sea food, besides Indian, Chinese, Continental, and Burmese
cuisine.
SHOPPING
Andamans is not really a place to go shopping. Here one comes to relax.
Clear gentle water of sea, pollution free environment every thing is for a
perfect retirement from the hectic city life. Here one forgets about the
shopping sprees; one cares more about swimming in the sea and observing
marine flora fauna in their natural environment.
Nevertheless, Port Blair is fast becoming like any other Indian city with
some good markets. Here mostly products made from corals and seashells can
be seen. The islands offer a wide variety of handicrafts made of wood, sea
shells and pearls in the form of necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc. there
are Coconut Shell Lamp Shades, Ashtrays, Nicobari Mats Apart from Wood Items
like Walking Sticks, Trays, Bowls, Tables and Chairs. These items are
available at Sagarika, Cottage Industries Emporium at Port Blair and Rangat,
Khadi and Village Industries Show Room at Middle Point, Port Blair and
several private show rooms in different parts of the town.

TIPS FOR TOURISTS
Do's
Ensure to and fro confirmed air tickets and accommodation before proceeding
to the Andaman Islands.
Foreign nationals should obtain the required permit from the immigration
authorities soon after landing on the islands
Visit only the permitted areas in the islands
Make use of the service of authorized tourist guides.
While driving, follow the traffic rules, keep left. Carry legal documents
like driving license, permit, passport, etc.
Consult Life Guards before entering the sea.
Swim in safe areas only.
Keep the beaches and the environment clean.
Dispose off the garbage and plastics at proper places/dustbins.
Observe decency and decorum in dress.
Avail the service of Scuba Dive Instructors having certification of
international professional organizations like PADI, CMAS, NAUI, BSAC or SSI
for safe Diving experience.
Approach Tourist Police personnel for any assistance required.
Don't's
Foreign Nationals should not enter the islands without required permit.
Don not enter into restricted/tribal areas.
Do not take video, film or photographs inside tribal reserve areas or of the
indigenous tribes.
Do not carry sea fans and seashells unless specific permits are obtained
from the fisheries department.
Do not stay on the beaches or the forest areas during nights by putting up
own tents/hammocks.
Do not light fire in forest areas.
Nudity on beaches and public places is forbidden.
Do not collect, destroy or remove any living or dead animal/plant
Do not collect dead coral or touch/break live coral.
Do not stand on the coral reef while snorkeling/Scuba diving.
Do not hunt birds/animals
Do not take video or film without permit, whereever such permits are
required.
Do not throw garbage and plastics in public places beaches and into the sea.
Do not swim after consuming liquor
Do not swim in unsafe waters during monsoon.
Do not venture into diving with unqualified/unregistered dive operator for
the same may be dangerous to your life.
General
Person who commits breach of any of the conditions of the wildlife
protections shall be punishable as per law.

Package tours to Middle and North Andamans- organised by ANIIDCO.
Package tour to Little Andaman organized by ANIFPDCL at Haddo, Port Blair.
Boat tickets for island destinations like Neil, Havelock etc have to be
obtained on the previous day of the journey from the Directorate of Shipping
Services, Phoneix Bay between 9.00 am and 11.00 am.
Boat tickets for tourists availing package tour to little Andaman through
ANIFPDCL will be ensured by ANIFPDCL.
Ship tickets for mainland bound vessels are available from the tourist quota
Desirous persons may contact Directorate Of Tourism with documents such as
Passport/Onward Journey Tickets.
